Ayia Kyriaki Chapel (St Paul of the Pillar)

The lovely old church of Ayia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa, Kato Paphos (the Church by St. Paul’s Pillar), situated in the grounds of an Early Christian Basilica, is the oldest chapel in Paphos. For Catholic and Anglican Wedding Couples who wish to marry in Paphos there is no better place than Ayia Kyriaki (St Paul of the Pillar) for this magnificent church and it’s history.

The site goes back to the Roman rulers in Paphos when St Paul the Apostle started preaching about Jesus Christ and converted many of the local people to Christianity in 46 AD, he was tied to one of the pillars and flogged. The Chapel is Byzantine which dates back to the 12th Century but was also taken over by the Crusaders as the focal point of the quest for the Holy Grail.

Today the Church is shared by the Catholic and Anglican communities for their services and gives a warm welcome to Wedding couples. Most importantly this Church has easy access for wheelchairs and can easily accommodate large wedding parties up to and in excess of one hundred guests

St. George’s Chapel

If you wish to get married somewhere more modern, then you should consider the St George’s Chapel in the grounds of the St. George Hotel, Chloraka, almost 4 miles from Paphos on the main road to Coral Bay. It is a newly built chapel only about 10 yrs old and is owned by the Greek Orthodox Church, it is understood to be one of the landing ports for the Crusaders.

However, Catholic and Anglican Services are held there Monday through to Friday. Please note that this chapel has at least a dozen steps to negotiate and is not suitable for wheelchair access and it is not possible to use ramps. There is seating for twenty-four and the Chapel only comfortably accommodates a total of 36 persons (this number includes the primary wedding party).
